Why I Changed the Way I Write My Blog
When I first started building my website, I honestly had no idea what a blog was supposed to do.
In my mind, blogs disappeared years ago.
Who even reads blogs anymore?
So I went to YouTube.
Like everyone else, I watched a lot of SEO videos.
They talked about keywords, rankings, traffic and many other things that made my head hurt.
But the main message was simple:
"Blogs are important."
So I started writing the kind of articles everyone else was writing.
What are preserved flowers?
Why buy preserved flowers?
How are preserved flowers made?
Top 10 gift ideas.
Things like that.
After a while, I ran into a problem.
I had nothing left to say.
There are only so many times you can explain what preserved flowers are.
Eventually I realised I was writing the same article over and over again.
And honestly?
I wouldn't even read those articles myself.
Then one day I had a strange thought.
Why am I writing for Google?
Why am I not writing for real people?
I've spent countless nights working on this business.
I've made mistakes.
I've changed products.
I've redesigned packaging.
I've learned things the hard way.
Was all of that experience only supposed to become another boring article that nobody wanted to read?
I didn't think so.
I wanted people to see how Luna & Ray grew.
From a very unfinished website.
To a better website.
And hopefully one day, an even better one.
I wanted people to understand why certain colours exist.
Why certain packaging decisions were made.
Why I obsess over small details.
I wanted Luna & Ray to feel like a real gift brand built by a real person.
Not just another website.
So I made a decision.
From that point on, I would write whatever I wanted to write.
Luckily, I love talking.
So I started writing down my random thoughts.
I have no idea if they're good.
I have no idea if anyone will read them.
Maybe one day they'll simply become a record of the journey.
A bit like watching a child grow up.
First they can't sit up.
Then they learn to walk.
Then suddenly they're running.
Most of my work starts at night after my daughter goes to bed.
Thankfully she goes to sleep pretty early.
One evening I was cleaning my office when I found some of my original website notes.
There were rough sketches everywhere.
Boxes connected by arrows.
Lists of YouTube videos I needed to watch.
Pages of things I didn't understand yet.
Looking at them made me a little emotional.
Was the website really that rough in the beginning?
Apparently it was.
But somehow it's still here.
And now it can run on its own.
That's why I want Luna & Ray to be more than just a place to buy gifts.
Of course I want it to help people send beautiful gifts easily.
But I also want it to have warmth.
Personality.
Stories.
And occasionally a few mistakes.
(For example, the first version of my ribbon was really not good.)
Because this website is alive.
And behind it, there's me.
