Luna's Random Thoughts – Chapter 17 Why Are There No Models on My Website?

If you've spent some time on the Luna & Ray website, you may have noticed something.

There are almost no models.

Most of our photography is still-life photography.

Even in our videos, you'll usually only see a pair of hands.

As much as possible, I want you to see the product.

Not the person holding it.

People have asked me before:

"Is it because it's cheaper?"

Actually...

No.

😂

Still-life photography is definitely not cheap.

Lighting.

Softboxes.

Tripods.

Backdrops.

Camera equipment.

And then all the little things I somehow keep buying because apparently I need another light.

I have several softboxes already, and some of my lighting equipment was definitely not cheap.

So no...

Avoiding models was never really about saving money.

There are two main reasons I made this choice.

First, I want you to see the flowers.

I want customers to clearly see the roses.

The arrangement.

The wrapping.

The gift box.

The colours.

The textures.

All those tiny details I spend far too much time obsessing over.

😂

I don't want the person in the photograph to become more important than the gift itself.

Second, everyone has someone different in their mind.

When you're choosing a gift, you're probably already thinking about someone.

Her.

Or him.

I want you to be able to imagine that person receiving the flowers.

Maybe they'll smile.

Maybe they'll cry.

Maybe they'll hug you.

Maybe they'll kiss you.

Maybe they'll just stand there looking at the box for a few seconds before opening it.

Whatever that moment looks like, I want it to belong to you.

If I put a specific model into every photograph, I've already given that moment a face.

And models are usually styled to look a certain way—young, tall, beautiful, perfectly dressed.

But the person you're thinking about might look completely different.

They might be young or old.

Tall or short.

Slim or not.

And none of that matters.

Because they're your person.

They already have their own face, their own story, and their own kind of beauty.

I don't want to replace that with someone I chose for a photoshoot.

So that's why, after all this time, I still don't really use models.

Maybe I'm just picky.

Actually...

I know I'm picky.

😂

But I also genuinely love our still-life photography.

The flowers, the black gift boxes, the textures, the shadows...

I think they already have enough personality on their own.

They don't need a model.
