As the founder of a premium preserved flower brand, I'm probably supposed to be elegant and mysterious.
You know...
Like luxury brands.
Or fashion models.
Quiet.
Serious.
A little difficult to approach.
Unfortunately...
I'm the complete opposite.
I talk.
A lot.
I jump from one topic to another.
And somehow I always end up telling three stories when I only meant to tell one.
My friends have always said I'd be perfect doing stand-up comedy.
The funny part is...
I can't speak to a camera at all.
I still remember my very first job interview after university.
It was an online interview for ANZ.
There wasn't even a real interviewer.
The computer simply showed a question, and I had to answer it by speaking to the webcam.
I thought it was going to be a proper face-to-face interview.
I even went out and bought a pair of very formal black high heels.
Turns out...
The only person interviewing me was my laptop.
It was a disaster.
The moment I looked into the camera...
My brain completely stopped working.
If you'd asked me to type my answers, I would've been fine.
Talking to a computer?
Absolutely impossible.
Unsurprisingly...
I didn't get the job.
The black heels were worn exactly once.
😂
See?
I've already changed the subject.
Later, I realised that maybe I don't actually talk too much.
I just notice too many things.
I've owned retail businesses for more than ten years.
Every day, I've watched hundreds of people walk in and out.
What they look at.
What they touch.
What they buy.
What they put back.
Whether they look happy.
Whether they leave disappointed.
My brain automatically turns all of those little moments into stories—or questions.
For example...
If everyone says a product is beautiful but nobody buys it...
My brain immediately starts asking,
Is it the price?
Does it have no obvious purpose?
Is it displayed in the wrong place?
One simple observation somehow becomes twenty different questions.
The other day I was watching a YouTube food vlog.
The creator was walking through a food market.
My mum asked,
"Why are you watching this?"
"Just because it looks good doesn't mean it tastes good."
I laughed and said,
"I'm not watching the food."
"I'm watching what they're selling."
"Why are they selling that?"
"Why is that stall using those takeaway boxes?"
"Why are the sauces arranged like that?"
"Why does this stall have a queue when the one next door is selling almost exactly the same thing?"
"What kind of food do different age groups choose?"
By this point...
My mum had already walked away.
😂
So yes...
Luna & Ray is a premium preserved flower brand.
But my blog is mostly just me talking.
I want this website to feel warm.
I also want it to become a diary of everything I've learned while building this business.
And who knows...
Who knows...
Maybe one day I'll ring the bell on the stock exchange.
And it all started with this bouquet.
